I am grieving over the lost of one of my mahjong tables1. Someone had stolen it yesterday’s afternoon and we only noticed it when we are heading out for dinner. It’s surprising someone would actually stole something this big. It’s about 80 by 80 centimetres and since we are living on the 9th floor, there is no lift access. Were they that eager to play such that they have to steal a table to do so?

Where's my mahjong table?

Where's my mahjong table?

I assume they carried it away in a hurry because we found one of the small drawers of the table at the bottom of the stairs on the 8th floor, they didn’t even bother to pick it up when it dropped. Were they guilty concious and afraid that someone would catch them in the act? Why would they steal an old rusty table when you can get a new one for less than SGD 50?

We do not have a store room at home and due to the design of the old flats in Jurong, there’s a large corridor. It is usually only use by my neighbour and my family as it’s an isolated corner. Hence, we placed the table folded outside. It’s puzzling to me why the thieves would take the old one and not the new one? We have 2 of those and my neighbour has another identical one on the same corridor. I’m guessing the old one was placed nearest to the stairs and thus makes it an easy target. Theft has been a problem for the past few years. My neighbour had reported at least 3 pairs of track shoes missing and my cage of hamsters were stolen a few years as well.

I was bored and extremely displeased hence I spend half an hour walking around the entire block hoping to see if anyone had discarded the rusty table after using it. I did not find any clues or indications on where my table was. :( I joking told my Dad that we should put up a notice saying “Area under camera surveillance”. Maybe that will scare off some of the thieves!

Oh no that sucks. :frown: From now on, don’t put your stuff outside. I’ve seen people having those CCTV stickers pasted outside the wall to scare people off. Probably that will help and deter these thieves from stealing your stuff again. Nice layout by the way. Do you by any chance have time to help me code my layout? (if I have the time to create my own layout of course lol) :x Can I contact you if I need your service? =D

Yup, I’m seriously thinking of implementing that suggestion and place the sign outside my flat. Hope it will work! :)

Thanks for the compliments on the layout. :) I’m not accepting any designing/coding projects before my graduation this year in June. It’s my final year in university and my parents wanted me to focus on school instead of freelancing on design projects. :( I’ll having more time after my graduation though, feel free to contact me then, that’s if you still need my help after that! :D

Holy cow! It’s shameful how unscrupulous some people can be. And over a mahjong table? Did it even have the play pieces with it? Pssh. I hope maybe you can file a report because even if it is outside your house, it’s property that was stolen so you could ask and try? :twist:

The playing sets are kept inside my house. Nah, filing a report for stuff placed outside the house doesn’t work unless someone had recorded a video which captured the face of the thieves. If not, there’s nothing the police can do about it.

What? So someone entered your house and stole the Mahjong Table? OMG! Why would they do that? I think they are stupid to do that. They are even more stupid to go and steal something from someone’s house! Did you guys report it?

Wow, the nerve of some people! I’m not sure why they chose that specific table to steal, or why they left the drawer behind either. Maybe they were just doing it to be spiteful, as a prank, or maybe even a dare. I dunno, but I’m sorry for your loss! We never leave anything of value (whether personal or monetary) outside because people over here will just take anything and everything.

Even my slippers get stolen lor. And it’s those cheapo type. Don’t know why these people want to steal such cheap stuff.

Haha, I have a ceiling fan so I should probably invest in a standing one or something that I can move. Hopefully my parents will install air conditioning in my room… I heard them talking about it the other day. But at least I’m not the only one suffering in this heat! ;)

That is a good point too – I might as well love my cable connection for rarely cutting out. :D

I love this layout by the way! It looks delicious. And amazing, as usual! :D

I heard about your Mahjong table from your tweet on Twitter. It’s shocking that someone wants to steal something like that. Considering they can buy one themselves, and that they could have taken the newer one. :S

It’s also quite strange that they didn’t bother to pick up the drawer they dropped. I think this might be a bit of a joke or something. They probably took the table because it was easy to get, something quite big and obvious, and something not very valuable. That leads me to think it’s a joke. :P It’s funny that your neighbour lost some shoes too.

I hope you can get a new table or at least find out who has done this. How very annoying. :!:

LOL the camera surveillance warning might sound work. Or maybe you could install the dummy just to scare the thieves. :D

That’s awful that someone would steal your table! I think that putting up an “Area Under Surveillance” sign is a good idea. It might not be true, but it’ll serve as a deterrent for future burglars/thieves, right?

Thieves seem to be going for odd stuff these days.

For your case, it’s an old, rusty mahjong table. For one of my friends, it was a shoe. (One friggin’ shoe. The other was intact.) And for another one of my friends, her bra got stolen. Now, THAT’S sick!

I concur. I have never heard of thieves stealing only one shoe and not the pair. What are they able to do with only one? Maybe they have a similar pair in another size and lost one? Or wrong sizing?

I have read of stolen lingerie and apparently it’s quite common! There are some videos posted on Stomp of some crazy people stealing bras. Some people resorted to installing cameras outside their house to catch those sickening fellows. :stress:

 It sucks that someone would steal it. You might have been joking about the surveillance notice but it doesn’t hurt to try, right?
