I have been thinking of making, creating or drawing something for Chewy for his belated Valentine’s Day gift. I know I’m extremely late in preparing a gift for the occasion but time has been running away from me recently. Chewy has started to enjoy reading so I thought it’ll be useful to give him a book. Honestly speaking, the original cover of the book looks pretty elegant and tasteful but being a DIY-loving person, I decided to personalise the entire book cover for him.

Original cover of the book
It didn’t took me long to “transform” the cover since it’s a simple design. I bought a set of scrapbooking materials and picked out a few items to be used for the cover. The entire process is basically just gluing and sticking the decorations and letters so it took me about 30 minutes to do that! The flowers look kind of girlish, hopefully he wouldn’t mind. This is how the new cover looks like. What do you think?

I bought the materials from Papermarket at Raffles City. Speaking of Papermarket, I went with James yesterday and I find it weird that even though both of us bought approximately the same value of goods, he got the VIP card while I don’t. I checked out their website about the VIP cards and it’s only given to customers with accumulated purchases of SGD 300 and above. Both James and I had only spend SGD 40+ each and it’s our first purchases so the question is, why does he have the card and I don’t? I don’t really need the card to be honest but I just find it weird.
The only reason I can think of is because the female cashier has a preference towards male customers.
Is it because she thinks he’s tall and handsome and hence the special privilege or is it just a genuine mistake?

Materials from Paper Market
I made use of these stickles which are basically glitters with glue, fabric flowers, ribbons, alphabets stickers, scrapbooking papers and a piece of rainbow artwork made from polymer clay. The rainbow was made a long time ago when I was still playing around with polymer clays. I love the glittery stickles because they make anything look great! It glitters a shade of rainbow under the light. Absolutely gorgeous! I’ll definitely be investing in more of these when I’m making my own cards in the future.

Diamond Stickles - SGD 5.90

Fabric flowers and buttons - SGD 12.90

American Crafts Page Kit Backyard - SGD 22.90

Wow, what a wonderful job you did! I’d definitely be happy with that if someone did that for me

Hi Dayna! Did your layout change from last time? I think it did. It is such a pleasure to be here because your layouts are so pleasing to MY eyes.
I absolutely love your style!!!
What program do you use to blog??
Your rework is very lovely~~ Makes me want to craft. I don’t think the flowers are girly at all.
I love your handmade rainbow. Why did you stop playing with polymer clay?? hehe

Yup, I think I did. The current layout is my favourite and I uploaded it in February. I use WordPress as my blogging tool.
I just don’t have the time to play with clays now. Furthermore, polymer clays aren’t cheap and they harden pretty fast. I plan to get some Angel clay, the air drying ones in the future though.

Ah~ wordpress is what I thought.
Yeah polymer clay is expensive. Though I do have a funny story. When I first started to use and play with polymer clay they were only .99 cents. I was like wow! This is cheap! …but later I found out it was on a Christmas sale so the original price is what? 2.99? I thought to myself…”I should have LOADED myself, what a waste.”
Hehe, hope to see some clay photos in the future!

Wow Dayna! You’re one creative creature of God! The book now is so cute! From dull to fab! I love it. It reminds me of my highschool days where I made my portfolio projects so scrappy and colorful.

I love what you’ve done to the book! It’s really gorgeous. I would totally read that book and many others if it was designed into something like that! I think it’s a really nice and personal touch to the gift you are giving him. I’m pretty sure he doesn’t mind the flower there.
He’ll love it, because you put so much effort and love into making a brand-new cover for it.
How does the binding look on the side of the book?

I didn’t change the binding at the side of the book, I just added a strip of ribbon to it. :P

Looks awesome!
I like the bird and the button flower in particular. I love decorating books, and (this is only semi-related) I’ve always admired other people’s transformed books when they decorate the pages inside as well, but I’ve never wanted to destroy a book to do that!

You did a really good job! It looks really good! I really love the rainbow above the e. I’ll have to do this next time I give my boy a book. I usually mark my favorite pages (he loves poetry) but this is an extra great idea!

That is such a smart way to customise a present like a book! It looks awesome too – I’m sure he’ll love it.

The new book cover looks awesome!
this reminds me of my stash of scrapbooking materials that have yet to be used -_-;;

Absolutely loving the book cover here! It’s lovely!
Did you just redesign the front page or the whole book cover?
12 March, 2010 at 1:02 am
Thanks!
I just redesigned the front cover and left the back untouched. I assume most people will only look at the front. :P I use a similar blue coloured paper on the front so it doesn’t look as though both sides are distinctively different.

No wonder it looked as if it was completely designed! Simply amazingggg <3
