Dad's extended family

Dad's extended family

We held our annual CNY gathering at home yesterday from evening all the way to midnight. It was fun as all our family members gathered together to catch up with one another. However, my mood was slightly disturbed by a young boy. All I could saw about him is that “he’s rude, naughty, ill-mannered, able to speak English well despite being quite young”. Now why am I getting pissed by another kid again. I told myself I have to be patience and tolerance against them but he went overboard yesterday.

He is 'The Kid'

He is 'The Kid'

Here’s the story… there’s this little girl of my mum’s cousin and she accidentally stepped on my foot. When this boy saw it, he came over and stepped so hard on my foot on purpose for like 15 seconds? He started laughing after that. I almost scolded “@$!%^@” at him but I didn’t. Mental note to self that he’s still a young boy. I’ve no wish to entertain him and exit the kitchen with my cup of herbal tea. And guess what he did? He pulled my legs from the back and I almost fell backwards. Thankfully my cup of herbal tea didn’t spill over, not sure if it’s because of my balancing skills or just sheer luck. :lame: Anyway, my mum saw what happened and got pretty angry. She carried him out of the house to look for his parents. His mum did not even bother to explain to the boy that what he did was wrong. :surprised: What have the new generation of kids become? I’m wondering … …

Have a look at the kid (to your right please), perhaps I should label him as an insufferable as well. To continue the story, he taught the baby girl to step on other’s foot as well. That’s the thing about bad influence. Kids are too young to know what’s right and wrong. Parents should be the ones to educate and teach them. His mum was pretty nonchalant about her son causing a havoc at other people’s place yesterday. What has the earth come to? :green:

And I have drawn a new smiley using the base of the current collection because I wanted a panda smiley so badly. :p anda: I just sent an e-mail to the creator of the site to confirm that it’s okay to use it, I’m still waiting for a reply. :p anda:

Wow, that’s rude.. even though he’s still “young” – young enough to be so naughty

Young generation nowadays (including myself) has changed compared to the previous young generation. I’ve seen some younger girls wear make-ups (I don’t :) ) Most of them act as if they are adults.. this is the part where I’m not so happy about

I don’t know what do you mean by the panda thing.. the smilie? You drew it or..? (sorry, lack of understanding here ._.)

LOL! That rhymes! :D True, I wear makeup only on very special occasions. It’s really troublesome to remove the make up plus I prefer natural beauty. ;)

Yes, the panda! :p anda: I drew it to match the current smilies, the creator got back to me already. He compiled the collection only so it’s fine if I wanted to add on to my collection. I wanted to drew more matching ones such as rainbow, flowers … still thinking of which face to add.

I prefer natural beauty too :p

O.O (I think I’m still in the dark) There’s only one panda smilie so far… (I have no idea what’s wrong with me  )

No errors detected yet. Will let you know when there is any :!:

Yup, that’s the only new one. :) I just manage to forgo my precious revision time and integrate Twitter to take over the mini snippets. Be a dear and let me know if there’s any errors okay?

          Sure :p anda:

Oh! I finally understand :P It’s very nice, faster complete the full set ah! :P

By the way, what did you set for your time? (wordpress) I set mine to UTC +8 but it appears that my time is –
        10.47pm (actual time) – 10.47am (mine)

        • avatar

Mine is UTC +8 as well, I think we are in the same time zone right?

          UTC time is 2009-02-02 15:53:33 UTC +8 is 2009-02-02 23:53:33

I copied this from the WordPress options. If you change it to -8, is the time correct? :!:

        • avatar

That will change the time to the correct one but the date will be the wrong one :(

          Never mind, thank you! :)

Cute new panda smiley! I guess that annoying kid stage gets grown out of soon, but my parents always made sure I knew what was right and what was wrong. So thankgod I was never like that! I do think some kids can be cute if they do it in a cheeky way, but this kid just sounds like a brat. Was he a relative of yours?

  4. avatar

I know a kid or two like that; after awhile they do get pretty irritating, but overall I think it’s funny and cute. I mean, it’s only for a little while that that sort of behavior is (somewhat) acceptable for kids.

It’s just a shame that the mother didn’t seem to express much consideration for the whole thing. :?:

That’s horrible, it’s like people these days have all the new age ideas about not scolding kids will help them change their behavior. Not so! It was the same with one of my little cousins, he was such a brat and he would only be good when my uncle was there, sadly my uncle couldn’t keep an eye on him EVERY minute of the day. :twist:

    Happy chinese new year!

He was probably just looking for attention, but still, what he did was wrong. I don’t think of myself as a very obedient person (well, compared to my parents’ generation) but today’s children are getting so out of hand because their parents feel the need to continually praise them instead of disciplining them (because, you know, that would kill their “creativity”).

  7. avatar

Oh God I hate it when people don’t do anything when their kids do something wrong. Some people definitely shouldn’t be parents.

Aww, the kid is so cute! I know how evil kids can be, though, despite their appearance :surprised:

I hope I won’t have such kid in my class in the future :lame: I think I would have lost my temper and really scolded him. I don’t remember kids being so naughty and insufferable in the past, maybe because the teachers back then had more authority to discipline the kids in any way they wanted as compared to today’s teachers. But if my own kid does such a thing in the future, he will most probably be grounded for days inside his room.

That kind of thing really annoys me – I wish that schools were able to discipline, because it’s not like the kids are getting it from anywhere else these days. I don’t know what the stance on that is in your country, but in the UK people are being a lot more cautious toward punishing children in school or they face the wrath of parents. The older generation were a lot better behaved (most of the time) and I can only think it’s because people took responsibility (either the parents or the teachers) – now, nobody will.

I doubt schools are able to discipline the kids. It’s the same situation in Singapore. If teachers punished the students, some parents would lodged complains against the school. For the older generations, teachers are able to exercise their authority and discipline the children. Parents are too protective against their children nowadays. :(
