I have been thinking of unfollowing some people on Twitter but I haven’t got the time to filter through the list of people I’m following. I have to say I rarely ever unfollow someone on Twitter unless they are outright spammers. However, some people are really getting on my nerves these days and here’s why:
Twitter is not your MSN

Twitter is not another variation of MSN and I hope some people will stop treating it like one. I do not mind discussions, meaningful or random conversations but just not the ones like the above. I see those every single day on my timeline from the same group of people. If they wish to ask “How are you?” to the same person every day, please add him or her on MSN instead of flooding my timeline with their tweets.
I do not understand why it is necessary to reply to nearly every single tweet on their timeline with replies like Wow, I see or just a smiley face. Sorry but I’ve to say that it’s extremely annoying. If they do not have any constructive comments or additional things to add on or reply to, please do not reply then. Personally I feel that this is a lot more irritating than advertising tweets, at least most tweet ads do not fill up my entire timeline all at one time.
Try not to flood me with contest tweets at one shot

All the genuine tweets are being buried by theirs. I did not even have time to read through the latest tweets on my list before everything is pushed off by the “ABC company is giving away …” tweets. Occasional contest tweets are totally fine with me. The sad thing is, some people prefer to tweet the maximum number of entries allowed in a contest at one go just in case they forgot to do it later. If the contest has a limit of 20 entries per day, they will tweet 20 times all at once. How about an entry per hour instead? There is not much I can do besides unfollowing the person. I used to filter out the hashtag for some contest with Destroy Twitter but I would have to add a new hashtag everytime such a contest starts.
Formspring tweets can be too much sometimes

In case there are people who aren’t aware of what Formspring is, it’s a website that enables you to set up a page to allow people to ask you questions, sort of like an FAQ page.
Most people turned on the feature of sending answered questions to their Twitter account. It’s not a problem until they start answering 10 to 20 questions at a time. It’s the same logic as the contest tweets. Let’s be frank, it is logical for them to answer all the questions when they login. I would do the same too but do they have to linked their account to Twitter? Couldn’t they picked and just tweet the most important or interesting question for the day manually? Some of their followers like me won’t be interested in reading all the questions and answers but rather just the interesting ones. Some may feel that 8 tweets isn’t a large number but if 5 persons are doing it, there will be about 40 Formspring tweets on my timeline out of 100 recent tweets for example.
So, that’s my list. What about yours?

I think the conversations and formspring spam are definitely the worse! Lucky the people I follow don’t really have conversations through Twitter. I don’t really use twitter as much as I use Facebook so it doesn’t really bother me that much what people tweet about. I just don’t understand how people can be following 300+. I’m only following 20+ and I only ever read about 40% of the tweets.

Twitter has a very specific purpose, short updates. It’s a micro social network but so many people miss the point.
I agree with everything so much, I want to direct message every one of my followed that annoys me with this. Would that be too unsubtle a prod? And another thing to add is when people post the same thing at the same time everyday like “back from school”. Pointless, useless. I think a general rule to follow is that if your update doesn’t have the ability (doesn’t mean it should) to get attention of a reply tweet, than don’t tweet it.

I definitely agree with the fact that some people post the same things every single day. To make things worse, some are actually unimportant. Seriously, they should think whether there are people who will bother with their “back from school” tweets.

Ya got a point there. I also hate people who spam on twitter. The main thing that bugs me is when my followers spam my timeline with random tweets which are really nonsense. They simply post anything to increase their tweets. There are few people who tweet “1″, “2″, “3″, and so on at separated tweets just to increase their amount of tweets
Laaame.
I also hate it when people tweet too many insults. Sometimes I think those insults refer to me lol that’s why I hate it. I don’t like people who swear too much especially if they swear with the caps lock on. Soo annoying
Some people tweet me like we are chatting on MSN lol. I agree with your point on it. They only tweet “hello!”, “how are you?”, “:)”, “haha”, and so on in different tweets. Ha.

Oh i know what you mean! This is why I only follow people who I think can share valuable information (news tweets, celebrity tweets – they don’t tweet that often anyway XD) or if they’re really my good friends.
I do get annoyed with all the spam too!! I connected my onioning (another version of formspring) to twitter but I rarely get questions there, I might disable it too sometime.

I don’t have a twitter account, but I’ve seen some twitter pages end up like that, and it’s annoying. That’s one of the reasons why I have yet to get an account there.

And this is why I don’t have a Twitter account. :P

Thankfully, people only use Twitter as their chat application once in a while — I find they tend to keep to Facebook for such things (which is less annoying). I find the most annoying tweets to be people who tweet about everything they’re doing, every second they’re on the Internet — don’t people concentrate on what they’re doing?!

I think the things that bother me most are the sponsored posts. Do people not care what they attach their name and online reputation to if it makes them a little bit of money? Also, DM spam, even from someone I know, is a big way to make me unfollow and block them.

I was just passing through DK’s blog and I stumbled through your blog, its so adorable! I love how cute this blog looks like!
Anyhow, yes! I understand what you mean about annoying twitterers. For me, once I could not take it anymore, I just delete them off my list. No hard feelings, its easier and better than risking another heart attack =D

Yup, the same things definitely tend to irritate me. I always hope that I’m not doing something annoying. Sometimes I think it keeps me from updating – just because I’m trying so hard not to be irritating myself. I was definitely giggling at some of those points. As for me, I’m sometimes so scared of hurting someones feelings that I just create lists and only read certain ones when I don’t feel like being annoyed. Haha.

I’m with you on all of those points. I’ve unfollowed a bunch of people because they use Twitter like an IM client and I got tired of my Twitter paged being flooded about things I don’t care about.
