Happy 24 years young, my dearest brother!

I finally got the time and energy to work on this post. Was down with a bad flu since Monday and I’m still battling it. Singapore’s weather is absolutely horrible; one minute the sun is there, it’s pouring the next.

Anyway, was out “celebrating” the 24th birthday of my dearest brother, James! Please do not remind me mine’s coming up really soon. As usual, we walked miles and miles in inappropriate attires. It baffled me why we always walk so much every single time we are out.

Lunch was settled at Barracks Cafe and the commendable dishes are their mushroom risotto and warm Strawberry Shortcakes. Simply the best!

Their Tau Sar Bao¹ is dub to be the best in town at S$2.50 each. The normal coffee shop version is only about a dollar. Not bad but for the price, perhaps there would be some other better desserts around.

Bren and I pop by PS.Cafe on Good Friday for a much needed chilling session. Needless to say, there is lots of catching up and gossiping to do!

Located at Palais, a secluded corner of Orchard, it is a nice and tranquil place to just sit down, have tea and enjoy the company with our besties. I especially love the high ceilings and it is filled with quite a bit of flora and fauna which gives the place a very good ambiance.

The must-try is definitely the Truffle Fries at S$15. We ordered the special Easter version with Chocolate sauce. Oh yummy!

Tea and coffee are reasonable too. With the exception of their cakes, at about S$14 a slice, it’s on the pricey side. Bren and I pretty much came to a conclusion that the Lemon Gingerly Cheesecake is not our cup of tea, or rather, our slice of cake. The total bill chalks up to about S$78 which is the most expensive all-day breakfast we ever had!

As with all the Atas¹ cafes, need a cab, here’s a card to help. Well, of course as locals, we took the public transport home.

We were actually all dress up & ready to hit mother nature but the weather was not kind. As usual, we never end the day without a good dose of camwhoring. Love our outfits!

Up next Saturday, we will be visiting The Coastal Settlement located right beside Changi Beach. Oh, the sun, sea and tea is screaming at us!

In the Malay Language, it means Sophisticated and High Class.

Breakfast never fails to make me happy

What’s a better way to spend your off day than having breakfast with my favourite person? I popped by to Wild Honey twice over the weekends the past month but failed to get a seat. I just don’t have the time and patience to queue for an hour. Luckily, I managed to convince mum to head over to town for all day breakfast today! They have the best breakfasts ever and it’s a must try!

Our whole family mistakenly thought Father’s Day was this week instead of the next and so we had an early celebration. It’s been some time since the last major family gathering¹.

I rushed home from work to be greeted by these wondering darlings and not to mention the food, food, foood. Dinner was good, supper was good. Is there anything that aren’t? Although I got to admit the day didn’t start off too well with me spilling tea all over my office desk. I hope ants wouldn’t be the first thing I see when I enter the office on Monday.

Not-so-happy experience at Prive Bakery Cafe

I went Prive Bakery Cafe last Sunday with Sissy, Chewy and Francis. Within 5 minutes there, I can only say the service is really horrible. Perhaps if we were to “dress up” and do not look too much like local Singaporeans, we would have had a better service experience. We were ignored when we entered the cafe and decided to choose our own seats since none of the waiters and waitresses were willing to come forward to attend to us. The funny thing is when a Caucasian walks into the cafe, all of them rush forward to serve him. So much for good service huh? Apparently, we weren’t the only one with the bad experience.

No one came forward with the menu and it’s only after 3 tries of requesting for one that the menu was being presented to us. We were extremely upset by the time our cakes and tea were served. Honestly, the food was good and I was especially intrigued by the gold dust I saw on the Tiramisu. However, I doubt I will be going back again.

No matter how first class your food is, your service is still third class.

I feel guilty for not blogging in a month and so here I am blogging about something that happened last weekend. Rather than making excuses like I don’t have the time to write a full post, I reckon I will just make do with small photos posts every week. Sounds good?

Bumbu Restaurant

A Thai-Indonesian Restaurant at Kandahar Street. Food was pretty good, fresh fish as well! Though I’m still wondering why the interior deco of the place has some Chinese “flavours” in them. It was about SGD70+ for 6 dishes. Definitely a must try!

A very popular dessert shop at Liang Seah Street. It was very packed when we arrive and waited for seats for a while. Not bad but I still prefer the ones from Hong Kong and Macau (definitely right?).

Tom’s Palette Homemade Ice Cream

We visited the branch at Shaw Tower and they have lots of unconventional flavours for their ice creams. Tried the Lavender, Oreo Cheesecakes, Lychee with rose etc. Good except that James nearly dropped my iPhone after taking the following shot.

Discovered this when Chewy wanted to try it desperately since he’s a noodle lover. I have only tried the normal ramen and “Happy Couple” Gyoza. Funny name for dumplings! Not to mention the adorable pig at the bottom of the bowl. Some of the staff are Japanese and they are really friendly.

A brand new year with lots of new memories

It’s the start of the new year right after Christmas. A very happy new year to you and I wish this year will be filled with lots of new and happy memories for you no matter which part of the world you are in! I had a blast during the small Christmas gathering at home and the countdown towards the new year is not an exception either. We held a not-so-small family and friends gathering at home. I love holding such parties in the comfort of my own house. It’s much more comfortable and I like how the entire house is filled with noise and laughter.

On a side note, I realised I fulfilled a few of my new year resolutions for 2009. Reading back the post I wrote at the end of 2008, I managed to get at least 50 marks for each of my UOL papers in the 2009 examinations and I got myself a new wallet as well. 2 out of 4 accomplished in the last year! I hope I managed to get those for 2010 done as well.

Merry Christmas to everyone! Did you take part in any countdown events last night?

On a side note, I actually drew the above illustration for my own Christmas cards but couldn’t find a inexpensive place to print it. There’s usually a minimum quantity of 100 to 200 and I don’t need that much. I only got to know of a shop at Bras Plaza that does printing for $1 per card with minimum spending of $30 from Ivy when we meet up for lunch last week. Hence, I will just leave the handmade cards for this year since it’s a bit too late to do that now.

I spent Christmas eve at home with my friends and family. We didn’t want to hang out at the parties due to the crowd. So Dad cooked steak and we had Christmas dinner at home. Michelle joined us for dinner and mahjong session as well. No turkeys on the table though.

We had a small gift exchange session and here’s Francis, Michelle and my sister with their presents. The panda Michelle’s hugging is from Chewy. He bought it in Hong Kong and she’s utterly soft and adorable. Definitely the cutest panda on earth.

It’s our custom to get a Christmas cake every year. Ta-da! This is our ~~log~~ mango mousse cake from The Icing Room. We couldn’t find a small log cake for 6 so we decided to get this instead. I was surprised when the cashier asked me if I want any candles. Does anyone put candles on Christmas cakes?

Joke of the day:
Mum: Is there cheese in the cake?
Dad: Yes, there is cheese in basement 1 of the cake.
Me: LOL! Our cake has basement 1, 3, 5 – mango mousse and basement 2, 4, 6 – chocolate sponge.

The cake is delicious though. Everyone gave the thumbs up for it.

I received this card from Huaian today. I was really touched. It has a photo of us taken 6 years back and he still has it sent all way from Australia. I love it Huaian! Thanks so much for the awesome card. I hope to see you back in Singapore in Feburary.

This is from my sister and her boyfriend, Francis. My sister gave me a beautiful necklace from Gold Heart which matches all the tank tops in my wardrobe.

Yesterday was our scholar’s¹ 21st birthday! Happy birthday my friend. As your official photographer of the day, here’s a photo collage for you. =p I would have given you a tiara as a special gift to wear on your birthday had I found one. I should have borrowed Terry’s². That would be so exciting.

I tweet about going Queensway Ikea with Chewy this afternoon. We kind of got lost while getting home from Marina (we went there after leaving Ikea). Before I let the photos do the talking, this is the cake I baked with Mum 2 days ago. It looks too red in the photo, it’s actually more towards a golden yellow.

We made mango pudding (with real mango) the other day as well. Got a few for Chewy as desserts. I dropped some on his pants while he was driving in the afternoon. I swear I didn’t do it on purpose.

The baked rice from NYDC is delicious and heavenly as compared to the one I post about last week.

I took a few snapshots while on the car. Notice the number of cars on the road as compared to the previous photo which was taken in the afternoon. Driving is made difficult with the large number of cars. Luckily for me, I’m not the driver. I love being the passenger despite having a driving license. :P We unintentionally drove to China Town and then to Orchard before “finding” the correct expressway to go home. It took us nearly an hour (usually it’s 20 minutes by cab) to reach home safely. But it’s Chewy first time driving out of his comfort zone so I don’t blame him. His intuitive on the road is quite accurate actually just that he lacks the confidence.

Here are all my loots for today. My new lamp is simply adorable. I felt in love with it when I saw it. I called it – The Robot. Doesn’t it looks like one? The metallic bendable stand looks like the body of a robot and the small bulb looks like its head? It also focuses the light on a certain area of the desk only. It’s one of the few lights in Ikea which uses white light. I’m not too fond of using those energy saving bulbs because the light looks orange. It makes me sleepy when I’m studying under orange lights. The Me-to-You grey bear at the side of the lamp is actually hugging the lamp switch. I didn’t want the switch to look too obvious.

I got a new DIY armchair as well. It’s actually not that hard to fix. For the price, I’m not complaining. The old one was made of plastic without any cushions and it hurts my bum after sitting on it for long hours. This one is much more comfortable with an armrest. It’s a gift from Dad. I love it! I have actually gotten some other stuff as well. A mirror with wooden frame, lilac mug and trashbin but didn’t took photos of it though. I think I’ll take a photo of the mug for the next post. It looks really pretty.

I finished reading Marked (from my previous post) within a day so I got the other 2 books of the series. They look juicy, I hope I’ll be able to finish them fast!

I would also like to thank those who have voted for me. I’m not actually betting on winning those contests as I knew that contests based on popularity votes are usually losing games for me. But anyway, I still wish to try my best and know the feeling of winning at least once. I’ll just admit that I’ve never won contests which are based on public votes because it’s mostly popularity and the winner are usually the more popular ones. I wouldn’t say I’m popular on the Internet but I do have at least some good online friends who are helpful, supportive and know-that-Dayna-exists. No particular reason why I wanted to say this, but still thank you readers, visitors and friends (both online and offline) who have spend your precious time to read my entries, help, inspire, support and encourage me.
