Back from the dead

Aloha! I was invisible (went MIA) from the web community since last November/December. Well, to keep things short, I took a much needed break to socialise in the “real world”. Surprisingly, I managed to keep to the 6 months time frame I had given myself to chill, relax and simply not think/code/draw (except when I’m working of course). I was still active on Facebook and occasionally on Twitter though.

My Photoshop was also collecting dust and spiders during the past half a year. I suppose this “Welcome back from the dead” layout isn’t one of my best but at least it’s something new. =p As usual, there isn’t any major changes to the overall structure of the layout. I did not carry out any cross-browser compatibility test due to the lack of time. It will be good if you can let me know if you notice any issues.

Short updates of what happened during the past 6 months:

Officially graduated from UOL Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance with Second Class (Upper) Honours

2009 is coming to an end and it’s been an eventful year for me with a few overseas trips and lots of celebrations; Christmas, birthdays and gatherings.

Camwhoring is a blogger’s favourite activity

If you are wondering whether I camwhore then yes I does that a lot! According to Urban Dictionary, Camwhoring is defined as taking pictures of either yourself and/or with your friends excessively. I actually think that bloggers camwhore a lot more than people who does not blog. Correct me if I’m wrong but I seldom see my friends who doesn’t blog at all camwhoring much. It’s sort of like a culture for bloggers to take photos of themselves alone or with their friends everywhere they go to. Most of them carry a camera with them when they leave the house. Am I right to say that fellow bloggers?

Anyway, I met up with Terry and Ivy yesterday for lunch at Marché and the three of us practically camwhore-ed for 3 hours! It was really fun though. You can check out Terry’s post for more details on what happened that day. :P Guys, we have to do this again some day. I mean camwhoring is no fun when you are doing it alone. It has to be in a group! If you haven’t try it, perhaps it’s time to start. Here’s a step by step instructions on how to camwhore:

Step 1: You will need a web cam, mobile with camera or any digital cameras.
Step 2: Look into the camera and smile. Please check the photos to make sure you are in it just in case the angle is incorrect and you ended up taking a photograph of the tree beside you.
Step 3: Click on the shutter button.
Step 4: Adjust the angle or change your facial expression.
Step 5: Click on the shutter button again.
Step 6: Repeat step 4 and 5 for another hundred times.

Congratulations, you have just learnt how to camwhore and have fun!

4 days getaway to Kuala Lumpur

I have finally finished uploading all the photos to my Flickr from the trip to Kuala Lumpur. It seems like I visit Malaysia every year in December. I love their Christmas decorations too much to miss any of it. Of course, it’s pretty obvious I love their sales from the look of my shopping haul. I regretted not getting a few more Etude’s products to try. Anyway, I place all the photos under the cut and there’s also a juicy breakfast video of Chewy.

Our rooms are on the highest floor at the 43rd level. This is our window view. Kuala Lumpur looks beautiful at night when all the lights are brightly lit.

These are some gorgeous Christmas decorations at Mid Valley. I couldn’t think of any malls in Singapore that’s comparable with this. Somehow, it reminds me of Harry Potter. The castle, the fir trees and especially the floating candles! I guess it’s a Harry Potter inspired theme?

The Garden Mall

I think this mall has a white Christmas theme. It seems to remind me of England in the 90′s and gives off a very elegant feeling. It’s simple but it does have very eye catchy decorations.

I tested the video function on my Canon SX10 IS for the first time. The funny thing was that everyone thought I was taking photographs of them when I’m actually recording a video clip. I uploaded this short clip of Chewy during breakfast when he thought I was taking photos of him. It’s hilarious but cute at the same time.

On a side note, I think the videos taken with the Canon SX 10 has a pretty good quality. Perhaps I should start taking videos more often, it’s really fun! I feel that moving videos speak a lot more than still pictures.

Kuala Lumpur’s shopping haul

I just arrived in Singapore a few hours ago from my trip to Kuala Lumpur and here’s a post dedicated to my shopping haul. I really love the sales at Etude House, it’s so much cheaper than buying the same products in Singapore. I’ve a few new tops and jackets as well but I’m too lazy to take photos of them now. I think the extremely cold conditioning system in school constantly reminded me to shop for new jackets. By the way, I am finally a proud owner to a dwaeji tokki¹ from You’re Beautiful.

I got my favourite dwaeji tokki in the world at Times Square from a shop called My Star Collection for RM 60. I’m super happy because this was the last one! I’m glad I’m lucky enough to get this little pig because it’s nearly the most adorable thing. It’s named Wii-Fi after Wi-Fi. The name is an inside joke of Chewy. Don’t mind him.

Christmas is my favourite festival season and hence I decided to share photographs of how Christmas is like in Singapore. It’s pretty easy to spot the arrival of Christmas in Singapore. The trees, trim shops, sales and special Christmas catalogues will start popping up. Everywhere screams “It’s Christmas!”.

Twitpic of an even busier week

To convince myself that I’m still hardworking, I decided to continue the “twitpic of the week” posts. I will be posting a photo collage of what I’ve done over the past week to fill up the “empty days” I didn’t blog about previously. My half mocks will start on 30 November thus I’m trying my best not to procrastinate and start reading the huge pile of notes. I’ve accumulated quite a substantial amount of reading which means I’ll basically be staring at my notes for the next few weeks.

On a very random note, I’ve officially broke my first mug in the bathroom today. I am usually very careful when handling glass but I’m such a blockhead this morning. If you haven’t notice, I’ve also increased the font size on Amour Chaleur because my vision is getting from bad to worse. Bigger text makes reading easier for me and hopefully for you as well.

Anyway, I was a happy user of Snaptu till the application decided to disappear from my INQ mini yesterday. No matter how many times I’ve tried, it refuses to reinstall so I switched to Twim now. I’m going to pray hard it continues to work until I get my iphone (hopefully) next year. Speaking of which my LG Viewty is still alive but I’ve neglected it. It’s sitting quietly in one of my drawers now. I might switch back to my Viewty next month because as much as I dislike touch screen phones, I still missed it.

Sing towards your 21st

The gang went out to celebrate Sharon’s belated 21st birthday yesterday. We went to sing at K-Box, followed by dinner at Waraku. The lamest joke of the day was when Sin Yin asked James if he could rap and Yee Loong replied “I can crap”. That was so hilarious!

We took a short walk from Orchard all the way to City Hall and I noticed they are putting up the Christmas decorations already. I have to say that the Santa isn’t adorable at all. A bigger head and a smaller body would definitely looks cuter than a smaller head and fatter body. On a random note, I couldn’t wait for Christmas to come. It’s the gift exchange season again and it’s time to love and share! Is there anyone in Singapore who would like to do a gift/card exchange?

Yee Loong also gave me some tips on taking night shots and gave me a short lesson about shutter speed and aperture. I think Orchard is a good place to take night shots in Singapore. All the newly renovated buildings have fantastic lightings.

I have almost forgotten to post my twitpic photos from last week. I had an extremely busy week and wasn’t online most of the time. Anyway, here’s a short recount of what happened last week. I received lots of goodies in the mail and am absolutely in love with my new cosmetics products from koreabb.com.sg. I found a new online shop, Beauty Carousel in Singapore selling lots of Japanese cosmetics. It’s so tempted to try some of the highlighting and oil control powder but I’m trying to put myself on a shopping ban to save up for Christmas.

I also went Haw Par Villa & Vivo City with mum. We went on board the MV Doulos. I found a Chinese craft book with lots of pandas artwork at PageOne and I took a few photos of them. I was so afraid the loud shutter sound of my mobile will alert the staff on duty. Anyway, the pandas were so adorable!

Some day later, Chewy and I went shopping at Orchard. I brought my panda and pooh bears to guard the car again. anda: Notice the claypot rice with abalone? We had dinner at Ah Yat Tian Xia Restaurant at Orchard Central. The abalone cost an additional SGD 7 and taste okay, for the price I can’t complain of course. Chewy had pork chop rice and he finds it delicious. I tried it and it’s also so-so in my opinion.

The rest of the week was spend on spring cleaning my room, playing bridge at home and having dim sum at Ah Yat Seafood Restaurant. I still think the dim sum from Imperial is better. So, that’s how I spend my entire week. How about yours?

Since I’ve tried Terry’s Photo Collage’s tutorial, I’m addicted to making photo collages now. So, we brought our little Porky out last weekend. No, I wasn’t hugging him at Vivo City but he stayed back to guard the car. =p
