Journey to “The Coastal Settlement”

The weather was kind yesterday and we finally got to visit the nature-themed cafe – The Coastal Settlement right beside Changi Beach¹. Thanks to Brenda super-awesome geography skills, we have no issues arriving at our location.

Located in the middle of no-where (okay, I’m exaggerating. It’s not the world’s most accessible place but at least 1 bus still runs right to it’s doorstep), it’s a relatively quiet and cozy place to chill. Price is similar to P.S.Cafe but the food is heaps better!

Warning: Do not drool.

Is there even a day where I hang out with Bren and we are NOT camwhoring? No. Period.

We spend much of the day ranting about… the not-so-enjoyable week whereby everything just seems to go wrong. It’s the only day in the past week which I can relax, rant and … just be myself.

Anyway, something new I learn from our trip: according to Bren, AB blood type is a natural repellent of mozzies. Yes, she repelled all the mozzies to me, THE O blood. Sweet and juicy – totally irresistible to mozzies! This sounds like an advert, anyway, the short 15 minutes photographing session “earned” me 4 huge bites. But it’s not going to deter me from going back again. Would definitely be going there again to chill, chit-chat and just enjoy the company of awesome people.

It is extremely far for me since I live on the opposite side of the island.

I finally got the time and energy to work on this post. Was down with a bad flu since Monday and I’m still battling it. Singapore’s weather is absolutely horrible; one minute the sun is there, it’s pouring the next.

Anyway, was out “celebrating” the 24th birthday of my dearest brother, James! Please do not remind me mine’s coming up really soon. As usual, we walked miles and miles in inappropriate attires. It baffled me why we always walk so much every single time we are out.

Lunch was settled at Barracks Cafe and the commendable dishes are their mushroom risotto and warm Strawberry Shortcakes. Simply the best!

Their Tau Sar Bao¹ is dub to be the best in town at S$2.50 each. The normal coffee shop version is only about a dollar. Not bad but for the price, perhaps there would be some other better desserts around.

And that’s him with the tees we got. I’m especially proud because I was the one who chose the tees and I love them! You can never go wrong with green.

Finally, a tad random, got this pair of geeky glasses with Bren last weekend at Eighty Two Tales. Love it? It’s my new in look!

Red Bean Paste Steamed Buns

The upcoming wedding at M Hotel

Before I bombard you with photos of our trip to M Hotel, I really need to share the dim-sum goodness from Yum Cha Express at Chinatown. That’s the only branch I go to because it’s the best for the pricing!

Sissy’s wedding will be held in March 2013 at M Hotel and she brought me along to the “Open House” so that I have a general idea what to expect and to addon any interior decorations if required.

Speaking of which, we were at Tanjong Pagar MRT Station on Sunday and that place is literally a ghost town on weekends. Being the blogger I am, we camwhored. Taking wedding photographs in train stations is not bad?

After about 15 minutes walk, we arrived…

I am honestly not such a huge fan of the Champagne table settings AKA “Radiant Love”. It’s really classy and glam but the colour is just blah because it blends too well with the overall colour theme of the ballroom. Then again, I love contrast and prefer something louder to make an impression.

The Red and Black setting AKA “Enchanted Garden” is my favourite! Very classy, mysterious and the bright red gives off an Alice in Wonderland vibe.

Wedding cake is a tad too plain?

I shall end this post with my outfit of the day! Nothing spectacular but I’m just so in love with my floral bib necklace – Earth Child from Jeanine Gabrielle and colour block wedges from Love Lezle.

Never forget that that’s the day someone spilled black soy sauce on my new shoes and pants! Luckily, they are made from leather and can be easily cleaned off but still… okay, I shall learn to forgive and forget.

I went Macau-ing again

Yours truly went Macau-ing again last week even though I am definitely no fan of the smoky casinos or uncles dressed in Hawaii-looking shirts. This opportunity was presented to me as an “on-the-house” birthday trip sponsored by dearest daddy. A break from work while I step into the 23rd year of my life doesn’t sounds too bad seriously!

Please be forewarn that the next half of this post will solely be on commenting on the interior designs of the hotels. There’s nothing much to blog about except their food and impressive architecture.

Street Shopping

We weren’t exactly shopping but more of taking a leisure walk around the town area. It’s only been a year since I last went there during my “Graduation Trip” and there wasn’t much of a change except the place was noisier and definitely more crowded. The weather wasn’t helping either as temperature soars to about 32 degrees; pretty much like Singapore except it was much less humid.

Lan Kwai Fong Macau

We took a quick look at Lan Kwai Fong as well; rather new and I adore the crystal lion “guarding” the main entrance. It’s munching on cash though; those are real notes in its mouth and not newspapers if you are wondering.

Grand Libosa

Not new and it’s also not my first time here. The grand hotel lobby totally blew me away. I can’t imagine any hotels in Singapore which can rival this. It makes me wow literally when you stepped into the hotel.

There’s also this awesome tea performance by the rather good looking waiter. He even asked if I had my camera ready to shoot him! He has ego, I’m sure of it!

City of Dreams

Modern, sophisticated and it gives off the “Singapore Marina Bay Sands” vibe. However, like the Grand Libosa, it’s interior design, lightings etc were miles better.

Galaxy

Across the road from The Venetian. Personally, I feel that it’s design is more traditional as compared to the City of Dreams. I am pretty sure the theme was “Peacock”. All the lightings in this hotel are set to change colours every few seconds. One minor complaint was that the Casino was too bright for my likings.

I can’t believe it took me more than a week to get this “wordless” posts up, I’m procrastinating and I can’t help it. Life’s busy.

Stepping closer to the 23rd mark

Another week before I turned 23. Not much thoughts except I’m really starting to feel old. Although I got to admit there isn’t anyone who thinks I am older than my actual age yet. Thankfully. I spend my Sunday hanging out with the girls before we met Mr Pink¹ for dinner.

Nice scenery, quiet place, good music, juicy steaks, cakes, pasta, you name it, we have it!

We took lots and lots of pictures. Just because, I’ll never want to forget beautiful memories like this.

Not to forget, they got me something on my wish list!

I can’t help laughing at the “Terms & Conditions” written on the back of my DIY Happy Lemon Vouchers. They are creative, I don’t deny. In fact, I am starting to believe James has some hidden designing talents while looking at those vouchers. It’s still a mystery how they managed to get hold of my National identification number. I’ve no clue!

On a last note, I am super in love with the lace skirt from Lacepipe. I’m not usually a lace person but their stuff are really awesome!

I hope he does not read this. I might get assassinated tonight if he does.Then again, he rarely ever wear any other colours except black, white, brown and grey.

Happy Dad’s Day

Our whole family mistakenly thought Father’s Day was this week instead of the next and so we had an early celebration. It’s been some time since the last major family gathering¹.

I rushed home from work to be greeted by these wondering darlings and not to mention the food, food, foood. Dinner was good, supper was good. Is there anything that aren’t? Although I got to admit the day didn’t start off too well with me spilling tea all over my office desk. I hope ants wouldn’t be the first thing I see when I enter the office on Monday.

I could not even remember when was the last. Chinese New Year perhaps?

Yours truly is not a beachy person

You get the point. Except for swimming, I’m not a very outdoor person and being dubbed the “vampire” by some of my friends is no joke. I don’t hate the sun and it doesn’t kills me either but definitely not a fan. Rain 1 Sun 0.

But still, we had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun. It’s been ages since I last saw some of those lovelies¹. It seems like jump shots are the highlights of the day with us competing who is the better photographer. I am not going to comment because I wouldn’t want Sharon’s fist to collide with my face. =p

Yee Loong, also known as “The Statue” was dragged into a random shot with us. He’s the one and only who brought a book to be beach². And if you are wondering why most of us are carrying fans, they are gifts from Yee Loong from Philippines! He always gives the most practical gifts at the right time. We needed wind desperately. I think because we were constantly fanning ourselves, the guys called us “The Tourists”. Please welcome us to Singapore!

The day ended with us having dinner at Vivo City. How about a short getaway trip the next time?

I reckon Huaian may send an assassin after me for calling him a lovely.
I think he brings a book everywhere he goes to.

Getting into the holiday shopping mood

I went on a major shopping spree with Brenda today at Orchard. We were suppose to go Karaoke but Cherlynn was down with a bad sore throat so there was a change of plans. Hope you feel better soon Cherlynn, we shall go sing again when you are well!

Shall let the photos do the talking as I’m extremely tired and sleepy now.

Loots of the day if anyone is wondering: 2 pairs of shoes (including a pair of little red shoes!), 2 tops, 1 pair of pants, 1 pair of earrings and 1 hat. I haven’t been on a shopping spree for a loooonnnnnnggggg time!

Not-so-happy experience at Prive Bakery Cafe

I went Prive Bakery Cafe last Sunday with Sissy, Chewy and Francis. Within 5 minutes there, I can only say the service is really horrible. Perhaps if we were to “dress up” and do not look too much like local Singaporeans, we would have had a better service experience. We were ignored when we entered the cafe and decided to choose our own seats since none of the waiters and waitresses were willing to come forward to attend to us. The funny thing is when a Caucasian walks into the cafe, all of them rush forward to serve him. So much for good service huh? Apparently, we weren’t the only one with the bad experience.

No one came forward with the menu and it’s only after 3 tries of requesting for one that the menu was being presented to us. We were extremely upset by the time our cakes and tea were served. Honestly, the food was good and I was especially intrigued by the gold dust I saw on the Tiramisu. However, I doubt I will be going back again.

No matter how first class your food is, your service is still third class.
