Not very sure though. :p Google Gears will store the commonly accessed files on your cache so the dashboard will load gazillion times faster than without it. I've had the same thing happen to me before when it comes to my comments. Sometimes something goes wrong and there's an error in submitting then poof, the super long comment I typed went down the drain. I hate it when that happens. Google Chrome is very light and fast as well.
